Laying bricks and concrete blocks to build structures
Preparing and applying mortar for bonding
Determining precise brick placement
Cutting and shaping
Trimming bricks to fit corners and angles
Levelling and alignment
Ensuring bricks are even and aligned
Repair and restoration
Restoring or replacing damaged bricks
Following safety guidelines on construction sites
Working with other tradespeople as part of a construction team
How do I get into this career?
The most common pathway is via an apprenticeship. However, a bricklayer can start as a Trade Assistant or Labourer, then, after a few years, have their skills assessed through a process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to obtain the trade qualification.
