Tilers are the tile artists! They install ceramic, porcelain, and other types of tiles on floors, walls, and other surfaces. With their precision and knowledge of tiling techniques, they create beautiful and functional tile installations.
What does this job involve?
Preparing surfaces for tiling by cleaning and leveling.
Installing ceramic, porcelain, or other tiles on floors and walls.
Cutting and shaping
Cutting tiles to fit edges, corners, or around obstacles
Applying adhesive or mortar to bond tiles to surfaces.
Filling spaces between tiles with grout and ensuring even lines.
Repairing or replacing damaged or broken tiles.
Arranging tiles in patterns or designs as per specifications.
Ensuring the final tiled surface is level and aesthetically pleasing.
How do I get into this career?
The most common pathway is via an apprenticeship. However, a Tiler can start as a trade assistant or labourer, then, after a few years, have their skills assessed through a process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to obtain a trade qualification.
